Background and needs
Barcelona-based Al Kamel Systems specializes in timing, MyLaps-tuned software development, race control systems, TV graphics, network installations, and race / test circuit solutions.
Among its clients are, FIA Formula E, FIA World Endurance Championhsip (WEC), 24 Hours of Le Mans, IMSA, European Le Mans Series, Le Mans Classic, Ferrari Challenge.
With the constant objective of looking for excellence in all their services, they trusted Vertex Ray to improve the user experience on their Live Timing web and Mobile platform.
The requirements were the following:
- The application had to be easy to use, easy to understand.
- All information was to be displayed including live timing data, driver profile information and live race information.
- Track / race information
- Current championship leaderboard (drivers and teams)
- Free practice results
- Live messages
- Live positioning
With the challenge of having a large volume of live, dynamic information that must be understood quickly and clearly, looking for a new vision of the web and mobile platform, the Vertex Ray design team conducted activities with a focus on learning more about the race world and the needs of its users to propose a more optimal UX design. To do so, our design team dedicated time to research and studied the platform’s functionalities to come up with a new Layout Design that would make the web/mobile more attractive and easier to use without losing valuable information.
We built a prototype that showcased the new platform’s interactions in a simpler interface that organize information as clearly and logically as possible.
In this way, the user can easily find what they are looking for, maintaining colors that are significant in the information displayed, making it easier to read and allowing users to see a simple view of relevant data without having to go into detail.
This is the result of the new design.
Once the redesign of its LiveTiming system was approved, Al Kamel Systems conducted a survey among its main customers to find out their opinion of the new Layout and to know that it met their expectations.
